Privacy Policy
We believe your family's data is sacred. This document outlines exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
Sentinel Kids LLC ("we," "us," or "our") provides this Privacy Policy to explain our practice regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information that we receive when you use our Services.
Apps Covered by This Policy
This policy applies to the Sentinel Kids parent app, the Sentinel Kids child apps for iOS and Android, the Sentinel Kids desktop apps for macOS and Windows, the Sentinel Kids Chrome extension, and sentinelkids.com. Sentinel Kids is a parental control service. A parent or legal guardian creates the account and links each child device using a pairing code and a one-time code.
1. Information We Collect
We only collect the data necessary to provide our safety services. This includes:
Account Information: Name, email address, password, and payment information.
Child Device Data: depending on the features the parent turns on, this includes location; the list of installed apps (name, icon, version); app usage and screen time; websites visited and blocked; device identifier, device name, operating system version, battery level, storage, Wi-Fi network name and online status; and SOS alerts.
Communications: Content of support tickets and emails you send to us.
1.1 A Note on Children's Data
We strictly adhere to COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and GDPR-K regulations. We do not use children's personal data for advertising purposes. All child data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
Children cannot create accounts. A child device is linked only by a parent or legal guardian, and linking is the parent's consent to the data collection described here. A parent can review their child's data in the parent app, unlink a device, or ask us to delete the data at any time by emailing privacy@sentinelkids.com.
1.2 Photos and Videos Shared in Chat
Our app allows parents and children to securely share photos and videos through the in-app family chat. We only access photos and videos that the user explicitly selects to send. We do not access, scan, collect, or back up the device's photo gallery or video library.
Photos and videos shared through chat are used solely to deliver the messaging feature between family members. They are not shared with advertisers or any unrelated third parties and are not used for marketing, profiling, or analytics.
1.3 Microphone and Voice SOS (Desktop Apps Only)
Voice SOS is available only in the desktop apps for macOS and Windows. On phones and tablets, an SOS alert is sent with a button in the app and the microphone is not used for SOS.
On desktop, the child app can listen for a short list of emergency phrases such as 'help me' or 'send SOS'. Speech recognition is performed by the operating system's speech recognition (Apple's Speech framework on Mac), on the device where it is supported. We do not record or store audio, and audio is never sent to our servers. When a phrase is recognised, we send the parent an alert with the device's location and battery level. The parent can turn this feature off.
1.4 Web Filtering
How web filtering works depends on the device:
- iPhone, iPad and Mac: filtering uses a DNS configuration profile that the user installs on the device. Website lookups from that device are processed by our DNS provider, NextDNS, so that blocked sites can be filtered.
- Android: filtering is done on the device by a local VPN service. Internet traffic is not routed through our servers or any third party. The app checks the names of the websites being opened against the parent's rules on the device itself.
- Chrome extension: filtering is done inside the browser.
On all platforms, the websites visited and blocked are reported to the parent account so the parent can see browsing activity.
1.5 Content Safety Checks (Android)
On Android, the child app can check on-screen content for harmful material. The checks run on the device. Only content flagged as potentially harmful is sent to our servers so the parent can be alerted.
1.6 Family Chat
Family chat stores the text messages, photos, videos, voice messages and files that family members choose to send.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes:
To provide and maintain the Service (e.g., syncing rules to devices):
To notify you about changes to our Service:
To provide customer support:
To detect, prevent, and address technical issues or security threats:
Service Providers
We share data only with providers that help us run the service: Google Firebase (sign-in, push notifications, analytics, database), NextDNS (web filtering on iPhone, iPad and Mac only), and Apple (speech recognition on Mac and push notifications on Apple devices). We do not sell personal data and we do not use children's data for advertising.
3. Data Security
We implement military-grade security measures including:
AES-256 encryption for all stored data:
TLS 1.3 for all data in transit:
Strict access controls and regular security audits:
4. Data Retention & Deletion
You have the right to delete your account and all associated family data at any time from the "Settings" menu in your dashboard. Upon deletion request, all data is permanently wiped from our servers within 30 days. When a parent unlinks a child device, the child app deletes its stored data from that device and stops running in the background.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR and US state laws such as the CCPA, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data and to object to certain processing. To use these rights, email privacy@sentinelkids.com.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "September 2026" date at the top.
